Man flees police after traffic stop in Harford Co.

A man police have identified as William D. Carter, 49, was stopped for speeding north of Dublin in Harford County and fled the scene, first in his car and then on foot, police said in a statement Wednesday evening.

A Harford County Sheriff's deputy pulled over a silver Ford Focus station wagon at about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Dublin and Hughes roads.

As the deputy was approaching the stopped vehicle, the car pulled off and drove away.

Carter, whose address police said is the 100 block of New County Road inAberdeen, abandoned his car near the scene of the traffic stop.

He was seen running into a wooded area nearby and police searched for him for about 90 minutes in a 20-acre region bordered by U.S. 1, Hughes Road and Arena Road.

Charges for fleeing and eluding police are pending against Carter, police said.

Anyone with information about Carter's location is encouraged to contact police at 410-838-6600.
