Laurel's 9/10 All-Stars place second in championship

Laurel Little League's 9- and 10-year-old All Star team placed second in the District 4 championship after losing to defending champion South Maryland, 18-3, on Saturday.

District 4 covers an area from southern Anne Arundel County to Arbutus, in Baltimore County. Laurel's 9/10 All-Star team has not advanced to a district championship since 2008.

On the road to the championship, Laurel defeated Arbutus, 16-6, July 5 and Forest Park, 11-7, July 6. Last week, Laurel lost its opener to South Maryland, 23-3, and then defeated Morrell Park, 31-3.

According to Laurel Little League president Pete Ruiz, Laurel's Little League has grown in the last five years from 100 players and nine teams to nearly 400 players and more than 30 teams of boys and girls ages 4 to 16.

The 9/10 All-Star team was managed by Kevin Stroud. Coaches were Ron Ohringer and Mike Solis and practice assistant coaches are Sherwin Maggay and Clif Collins.

Team members were: Cameron Brown, Nick Calabrese, Christian Cebellos, Caleb Collins, Glenn Harrison, Christopher Jones, Sam Ludlam, GT Maggay, Derek Ohringer, Tyler Peguese, Evan Peguese, Dominic Solis and Matthew Stroud.
