Rothschilds' story
Actor Bernie Dean will perform a one-person rendition of the Broadway musical "The Rothschilds" Sun., June 12, 6 p.m., at the Beth Shalom Congregation at 8070 Harriet Tubman Lane, in Columbia.
The Tony Award-winning show tells the story of the Rothschild family, which went from Jewish ghetto poverty to wealth and power. A dessert reception will follow the performance.

Rep announces season
Columbia's Rep Stage Company has announced the slate of plays it will stage for its 19th season, which begins in late August. The Actors Equity troupe will give a regional premiere to Liz Duffy Adams' comedy about romance in Restoration England, "Or," Aug. 31-Sept. 18. William Luce's "Barrymore" will look at actor John Barrymore's attempted comeback, Oct. 26-Nov. 11.
Dael Orlandersmith's "Yellowman" will examine intra-racial prejudice among blacks, Feb. 8-26. Lynn Nottage's "Las Meninas" will close the season April 18-May 6, with its story of a scandal involving France's Louis XIV.
The company will also include a "Salon Series," which will feature plays in short runs featuring some regular Rep actors. Plays in the series include Anne Nelson's Sept. 188-related drama "The Guys" (Sept. 9-11); the Edgar Allan Poe retrospective "The Poe Show" (Oct. 21-24); David Sedaris' seasonal "Holidays on Ice" (Dec. 16-19) and "Rep Stage Revue: Spotlighting YOU!" which will feature aspiring entertainers (March 30-April 1).
