Congratulations go to Josh Lafond from Boy Scout Troop 428. Josh recently achieved scouting's highest rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle project, Josh planned and installed two potting/gardening tables at Lorien Health Systems, in Mount Airy. These tables will be used by the residents for activities and rehabilitation. Josh's dad and fellow scouts helped with the project. Josh is finishing up his junior year at South Carroll High School. I'm sure his parents, Art and Graciela Lafond, are very proud of his achievements.
Howard County Executive Ken Ulman recently kicked off the construction project for the first leg of the Inter-County Broadband Network, which is a high-speed fiber optic network that will directly connect to 715 institutions, such as public schools, libraries, public safety agencies, community colleges and other government agencies. The project will last 18-24 months with work in several neighborhoods. Since the Columbia area is the most highly populated, much of the construction will be there. The contract has been awarded to IPX International Systems; so their trucks may be visible in local neighborhoods.
