Charles Village gets festive for the weekend

This year’s Charles Village Festival runs Saturday-Sunday, June 4-5, at 29th and Charles streets, in Baltimore. Expect food, antique cars, games for children, and a variety of local musicians including Junkyard Saints, Lafayette Gilchrist and the Greg Hatza ORGANization. The festival will also host its annual garden walk (Sunday, 11 a.m.), which will trek through the gardens south of 29th Street between Howard Street and Guilford Ave. Hours are Saturday 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Go to www.charlesvillagefestival.com.

Wine and art

The Northern Baltimore County Art Foundation will host a Gunpowder River Artfest Saturday, June 4, 11 a.m.-8 p.m., at Boordy Vineyards at 12820 Long Green Pike, Hydes. The festival will feature fine art and American crafts, food and music workshops and demos, kid’s activities and music by the Jody Westerlund Band, and Nelly’s Echo. Support the League

The Junior League of Baltimore will host a Summer Bull Roast Saturday, June 4, 7-11 p.m., at Oregon Ridge Park at 13401 Beaver Dam Road in Cockeysville. Learn about wine

Chef’s Expressions and glassware mogul Georg Riedel will team up to hold an Interactive Wine Seminar and Supper Wednesday, June 8, 6:30 p.m., at the American Visionary Art Museum (800 Key Highway, Baltimore). Attendees can taste wine and enjoy dinner; the ticket price also include a Vinum XL Tasting Set, featuring one glass each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. Drop into art

The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore will host Drop-in Art Activities each weekend in June, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., in its Family Art Center. The month’s activities will be built around a “Nature Escape” theme, allowing families to experiment with natural materials to create artwork with an emphasis on a healthy planet. For the opening weekend, June 4-5, visitors can create Painted Panoramas. Admission is free. Call 410-547-9000.

Studio days

The City of Baltimore will hold a Studio Day at the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower Thursday, June 2, 5:30-8 p.m., at 21 S. Eutaw Street. For this monthly event, area artists showcase their original works and the Unexpected Theatre will perform short plays and monologues at 2 p.m. Admission is free. Golf for 4-H

The Maryland 4-H Foundation will hold its 30th Annual Golf Tournament Monday, June 6, at the Oakmont Green Golf Course in Hampstead. This event, which kicks off a summer fundraising drive opens with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Strawberries in Sykesville

The Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church will feature its annual Sykesville Strawberry Festival Saturday, June 4, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Sykesville Freedom Fire Hall, located at Route 32 and Freedom Ave. The event, now in its 20th year, will feature games, hay wagon rides, entertainment, a silent auction, food, craft and antique vendors, and strawberry shortcake. Polish cooking

Authors Peter and Laura Zeranski will sign copies of their new cookbook, Polish Classic Recipes Saturday, June 4, 1-3 p.m., at the Polish Pottery Mart, located in Historic Savage Mill at 8600 Foundry Street, Savage. The husband-and-wife team have been cooking Polish food together for decades and their book details family recipes such as cucumber salad, beet soup and pork cutlets.
