Harford Co. teen dies after three-wheeler strikes tree

A 16-year-old teen driving a three-wheeler died after striking a tree in Havre de Grace Wednesday night, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Tyler Lee Hickman lost control of the Honda three-wheeler, causing him to hit a pine tree and be thrown from a vehicle, sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies arrived shortly before 8 p.m. to the 2400 block of Old Robin Hood Road, where they found Hickman, who had landed in a rocky embankment 10 to 15 feet away from the tree and was suffering from a large laceration to the back of his head. He was semi-conscious, but deputies said he was able to give his name.

The state police helicopter could not take Hickman to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center because of bad weather, deputies said, so he was taken Harford Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead just before 9:30 p.m.

Sheriff's deputies said Hickman, of the 1900 block of Bennett Road in Perryman, had been at the home of a relative when he crashed.
