Three teenage girls were charged as juveniles Thursday with placing prank bomb threat calls to five Harford County public schools, according to the Harford County Sheriff's office.
The teens, one 15-year-old and two 14-year-olds, were arrested Thursday after police said the girls placed the bomb threat calls to Bel Air Middle, Bel Air High, Fallston High, Southampton Middle and Patterson Mill High schools on Monday.
Police said the incident was a hoax after they searched the schools and found no suspicious devices.
Through investigation, police identified three students from Bel Air High School believed to be responsible. The teens, who live in the Bel Air and Forest Hill areas, were released to their parents Thursday.
The teens face five counts of making a statement/rumor as to a destructive device and five counts of disturbing school operations.
The school system is expected to take appropriate disciplinary action against the girls, Teri Kranefeld, manager of communications for the school system, wrote in an email Thursday.
