Woman seriously injured in one of two overnight fires in Bel Air

Sheriff's deputies rescued a woman from a fire at a Bel Air home early Wednesday, according to a spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. to the 1200 block of Kirby Circle, said the spokesman, Rich Gardiner. When they arrived, sheriff's deputies had already pulled the only occupant out of the house, he said.

The woman was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in serious condition, according to Gardiner. One firefighter slipped on ice and was also taken to Upper Chesapeake for treatment of rib injuries. The fire was brought under control in about five minutes, Gardiner said.

About 3:45 a.m., firefighters also responded to a fire in the 1800 block of Churchville Road. The fire was coming from the second floor of a two-and-a-half-story home that had been converted into apartments, according to Gardiner.

One occupant was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for minor injuries, he said. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to bring that fire under control.
