A 70-year-old Havre de Grace woman who was injured Tuesday in an apartment fire died Wednesday, according to state fire officials.
Helen Bernice Logan, 70, died at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace as a result of smoke inhalation, according to a release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Her companion, Keith Richard Dowden 60, was pronounced dead at the scene.
About 25 firefighters were called about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to Logan's apartment in the 200 block of South Union Avenue. Firefighters were able to control the blaze in about 15 minutes and contained the flames to Logan's apartment.
Fire investigators said the blaze originated in Logan's living room. Fire officials report about $60,000 in damage to the three story wood framed multi-family house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
