Tony Ravithis Mumpower, a professional photographer who specialized in covering golfing events, died Aug. 21 of complications from prostate cancer at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. The Towson resident was 75.
Mr. Mumpower was on assignment when he was stricken, family members said.
The son of farmers, Mr. Mumpower was born in Bristol, Va., where he graduated in 1953 from high school.
He attended Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, N.C., and served in the Army as a swimming instructor from 1957 to 1958.
As a young man, Mr. Mumpower played baseball for a St. Louis Cardinals farm team.
A professional photographer who loved sports, Mr. Mumpower established Picture Swing, a nationally known business that specializes in covering golfing events, about 25 years ago.
He had not retired at his death.
"He was a charming and joyful man who made friends everywhere he went," said a son, Mariano Mumpower of Towson.
"He loved being with his family, working in his business, following sports and telling his stories in a way that touched the hearts of all who knew him," he said.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 12 at Woodbrook Baptist Church, 25 Stevenson Lane, Rodgers Forge.
Also surviving are his wife of 30 years, the former Yolanda Teresa Sosa; another son, Anthony Mumpower of Palm Desert, Calif.; a daughter, Gabriela Mumpower of Towson; and a granddaughter. An earlier marriage ended in divorce.
