State basketball roundup (Jan. 5): Walker leads Loyola men past Boston U.

Loyola Maryland 68, Boston University 65: Andre Walker tied his season-high with 27 points, scoring 16 in the second half to lead the Greyhounds to a Patriot League victory at Reitz Arena.

Walker had a game-clinching steal with 0.6 seconds left, finishing with two steals, four rebounds and four assists for Loyola (4-10, 2-1).

Andrew Kostecka made 6 of 8 shots, including two of his three from behind the arc, off the bench to tally 14 points.

Women

American 46, Navy 41: The host Eagles (10-4, 3-0 Patriot League) went on a 23-15 run in the third quarter and beat the Mids (11-3, 1-2).

Laurel Jaunich had 10 points for Navy. The Mids led 7-2 in the first quarter.

Boston University 75, Loyola Maryland 56: Stephanie Karcz led all players with 23 points and 13 rebounds, but the visiting Greyhounds (2-12, 0-3 Patriot League) fell to the Terriers (7-1, 2-1).

Karcz also added a game-high five steals, while freshman Izzy Therien had 15 points and seven rebounds for Loyola.

Nia Irving led Boston University with 21 points.

James Madison 69, Towson 45: Nukiay Mayo had 16 points and 11 rebounds, but the visiting Tigers (5-8, 0-3 Colonial Athletic Association) fell to the Dukes (7-7, 3-0).
