John Waters has spoken.

The best film of 2013 is "Spring Breakers," which featured "Disney tween starlets" Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens "undulating, snorting cocaine and going to jail in bikinis."

Throw in a drag queen and some dog poop and "Spring Breakers" starts to sound like a film the Baltimore cult director could have made himself.

Some of the year's other best movies, Waters tells Artforum magazine, include "Abuse of Weakness" starring Isabelle Huppert, his favorite actress, in "weirdly glamorous orthopedic shoes" and "Blackfish," which he describes as a "whale snuff-film documentary that'll make you root for the kidnapped killer mammal and wish he had eaten alive Sea World's evil owners."

Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine" also merits a shout-out from Waters.

Only Allen could "make San Francisco look ugly," Waters says.
