Terps-Miami notebook: What's up with D.J. Adams?

*What's up with D.J. Adams? Maryland coaches are remaining mum for now on why the running back (11 touchdowns last season) has slipped below the two-deep depth chart. I expect we'll get an explanation today or tomorrow.

*The stat that jumps out at you about Nick Ferrara is not that he's 18-of-25 in his career on field goals. It's that he's 7-for-10 from 40 yards or longer, including a made 50-yarder. That's a big reason why he's potentially so important this season. His strong leg can be a real asset in tight games. I profiled Ferrara, also the punter, in today's paper.

*With Miami and Maryland playing Monday night, casual fans may focus on the suspension of Miami quarterback Jacory Harris -- one of eight Hurricanes suspended for accepting impermissible benefits. But Stephen Morris, who beat Maryland last season with a late touchdown pass, is more than capable and may have started over Harris anyways. What seems particularly significant are the suspensions of two prominent defensive players -- linebacker Sean Spence and safety Ray-Ray Armstrong.
