Even though rookie cornerback Jimmy Smith has missed four of the Ravens' nine training camp workouts so far -- and participated only on a limited basis in Saturday's workout -- defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano says he's not worried.
At least not outwardly.
"From a mental standpoint, he's in all the meetings," Pagano said. "Then he goes to every practice, so he takes every mental rep. Every rep the first corners take out on the field, he's standing there with the coaches, he gets the call, so now he knows what's called and now he'll watch those guys execute. That's what he's getting right now. He's really a bright kid, so he won't have a problem picking it up, but he's got to knock the rust off at some point."
Pressed on whether it was a concern that Smith, the team's first-round pick, was missing so much practice time without having been involved in the offseason program, Pagano said: "We would love to have him on the field. I'm not worried ... because we've got a ton of guys who can play."
The Ravens are monitoring the reps that first-team corner Domonique Foxworth is taking because his right knee is still sore a year after surgery that ended his 2010 season.
