Maryland to meet Alabama in Puerto Rico

First-year Maryland coach Mark Turgeon will take the Terps to Puerto Rico, where they will meet Alabama in the first round of the 2011 Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Nov. 17. Game time is 5:00 p.m., ESPN announced today. The game will be on ESPN2.

Maryland has known since last season that it would be heading to San Juan. But it didn't know exactly who it would open with. Teams in the field and their conferfence are: Alabama (Southeastern), Colorado (Pac-12), Iona (Metro Atlantic), Maryland (Atlantic Coast), Purdue (Big 10) Temple (Atlantic-10), Western Michigan (Mid-American) and Wichita State (Missouri Valley).

Each team will play a game on Nov. 17, 18 and 20. The champion will be determined through a bracket-tournament format.
