Jerry Lewis fans have expressed shock and outrage. Fellow comics have decried what they see as the shabby treatment of their hero. But neither Lewis nor the Muscular Dystrophy Association has offered an explanation for why Lewis will no longer take part in the annual MDA telethon.
Before the story broke in the first week of August, Lewis promised to make a full statement about his future plans on Sept. 5. As far as we know, he hasn't gone back on that vow.
So let's have the next-to-last word go to John Waters, who asks:
"Can't the loyal-to-Jerry MDA kids form a flash mob and wreck the set right when the telethon goes on the air as a protest?"
