Have to admit I was surprised that one line in a blog could turn into headlines all over the internet. On the blog "Lee Evans hears trade rumors," I wrote that the Ravens probably would only look at the Bills receiver if he were released.

That was my opinion. That was not attributed to a source. In fact, a source close to the Ravens told me that it was too early to gauge the chances of the team trading for Evans and there was "no way to speculate on it" at this point. That led me to put my take on the situation.

So, the Ravens have never ruled out a trade but I would be surprised if it happened based on the team's increasing confidence in rookies Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss and its history.

In their 16-year existence, the Ravens have made 17 player trades. Only three times did it involve a receiver (the attempted acquisition of Terrell Owens in 2004, the draft-day trade for Kevin Johnson in 2004 and the trade for Anquan Boldin in March 2010).
