Shortstop J.J. Hardy said that his left ankle is feeling much better today, but he's likely unavailable tonight. Hardy was awaiting a visit with team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said that Hardy could have an MRI tomorrow morning.

With Hardy out, Andino gets the start at shortstop and Izturis is activated from the disabled list to play second base. To make room for Izturis, the Orioles are expected to option third baseman Josh Bell to Triple-A Norfolk.

With Jake Arrieta expected to have season-ending surgery, Showalter said that he'd like Chris Tillman to seize a rotation spot. But that will depend on how well Tillman does tomorrow night.

Showalter said that second baseman Brian Roberts (concussion) is making progress and has increased his baseball activity, but he still hasn't been cleared to play in any games.

A couple of other tidbits: Coordinator of Offensive Fundamentals Mike Bordick starts his stint at acting bullpen coach tonight ... Single-A Frederick first baseman Tyler Townsend has recurring soreness in his hamstring and he'll return to Sarasota to continue the rehabilitation process ... Starter Justin Duchscherer, who was released earlier this week after not pitching in an affiliated game with the Orioles, had successful hip surgery Thursday. The surgeon found some adhesions and floating cartilage in the joint, which were the cause of the pitcher's discomfort.
