As the lockout continues, Ravens Insider wants your opinion on what the team should do with their own pending free agents. This blog takes a look at cornerback Josh Wilson. Should the Ravens sign or decline?
PROS: Wilson is young (just turned 26) and he is a playmaker (has returned four interceptions for touchdowns). After Fabian Washington was benched at midseason, Wilson solidified the cornerback spot. His 15 passes broken up were second on the team behind Ed Reed. With his speed, Wilson can match up against the fastest receivers in the NFL.
CONS: Wilson should draw some strong interest from other teams because he is young and he has the cache of being a starter on the Ravens defense. That means retaining him won’t be cheap. Plus, Wilson probably feels he has earned the right to go to a place where he has a great chance of starting. The Ravens can’t offer any guarantees with Domonique Foxworth, Lardarius Webb and first-round pick Jimmy Smith.
OUTLOOK: If the Ravens have to choose between keeping Wilson or Chris Carr, my bet is on Carr. Wilson has more upside but he will have a higher price tag. The Ravens can’t overspend on a player who might get pushed out of the starting lineup.
