Ravens will miss Heap and Mason in end zone

The Ravens certainly will miss the veteran presence of tight end Todd Heap and wide receiver Derrick Mason in the locker room. Where the Ravens will miss them more is in the end zone.

During the Flacco era, Heap and Mason have combined for over half of the receiving touchdowns on the Ravens. They have accounted for 33 of the 62 touchdowns thrown in the air, which is 53 percent.

For the past three years, Heap and Mason have made 38 percent of the catches and ran for 43 percent of the yards.Releasing Mason and Heap allowed the Ravens to create $9.1 million in salary-cap space. The Ravens had prepared themselves for these moves, drafting two tight ends (Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta) in 2010 and two wide receivers in 2011 (Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss).
