Two potential starters – inside linebacker Jameel McClain and safety Tom Zbikowski – along with long snapper Morgan Cox will be sidelined as they begin training camp this year. But none are considered serious and all are expected to practice soon.
McClain, the Ravens' third-leading tackler from last season, has been placed on the non-football injury list. That designation means he was injured outside of football activities or he failed his physical and/or conditioning test.
Zbikowski is on the non-football illness list with a skin condition. A boxer in the offseason, Zbikowski is expected to replace Dawan Landry as the team's starting strong safety.
Cox is on the physically unable to perform list after having season-ending knee surgery in late December. He is entering his second season with the Ravens.
Other transactions included:
*DT Lamar Divens was re-signed a day after he was released. He failed his physical last week.
*DT Kelly Talavou had his restricted free-agent tender withdrawn and is now a free agent.
*OT Eric Vanden Heuval left the Ravens after being carted off the field on the first day of training camp because of the heat.
*OT Alex Solot was signed to fill Vanden Heuvel's spot. The 6-foot-8, 316-pound lineman out of UTEP was initially not picked up as an undrafted rookie. "I can't believe no one wants a guy that's 6'8", 320 pounds that can run a 40 (meter dash) in 5.2 (seconds) in (offensive lineman) Alex Solot," UTEP coach Mike Price told local reporters.
