Jimmy Smith expects deal to be done Friday

Jimmy Smith expects to sign his contract Friday, the Ravens' first-round pick announced on his Twitter account.

Smith, the 27th overall pick, would suit up for practice if he signs his deal and passes the team's conditioning test by 1 p.m. He brings much-needed size, speed and shutdown cornerback ability to the 21st-ranked pass defense.

"Ok, it's official, I sign [tomorrow]," Smith tweeted late Thursday night.

When the Ravens opened up training camp, Domonique Foxworth and Lardarius Webb worked at cornerback with the first-team defense. The Ravens could lose both of last seaosn's starters, Chris Carr and Josh Wilson. Wilson signed with the Washington Redskins, and Carr remains an unrestricted free agent.
