Mendenhall scheduled to begin season on 9/11 in Baltimore

Pittsburgh running back Rashard Mendenhall posted some controversial remarks on his Twitter account Tuesday, about two days after Osama bin Laden was pronounced dead.

Here are some of Mendenhall's tweets:

"What kind of person celebrates death? It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side"

"We'll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style"

On a side note, Mendenhall is scheduled to begin his 2011 season on 9/11 at M&T Bank Stadium. There's no doubt that Mendenhall will have to address this matter again that week. And it'll be interesting to hear the reception once his name is announced after his first couple of carries.

Steelers team president Art Rooney II issued a statement regarding Mendenhall: "I have not spoken with Rashard so it is hard to explain or even comprehend what he meant with his recent Twitter comments. The entire Steelers' organization is very proud of the job our military personnel have done and we can only hope this leads to our troops coming home soon."
