Arrieta sharp, but running low on fuel

Jake Arrieta threw 48 pitches in the first two innings, so it's pretty impressive the way he tightened things up and cruised through the sixth. He probably isn't much longer for this game, but he has dominated the Royals up to this point -- the only significant blemish on his performance the long home run that Jeff Francoeur drove into the left field seats in the second.

If Arrieta wants to get this victory, however, he needs to tell the offense to get after Kyle Davies and tack on some runs ASAP. Otherwise, there's a pretty good chance this game ends up like last night's.

Instant update: Nick Markakis just yanked a solo homer over the right field fence and Davies bounced his last pitch of the game off Derrek Lee's left bicep. Royals reliever Nate Adcock has taken the mound.
