Time will tell on Ravens' first-round decision

The Ravens probably would have been pleased if they left the first round with either Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith, Temple defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson or Ohio State defenisve lineman Cameron Heyward.

When the Ravens were on the clock, they had the ideal situation -- all three were still available. Ravens officials said Smith was clearly the highest-rated player on their board.

"There were a lot of talented players still on the board," director of player personnel Eric DeCosta said. "In the end, we felt like Jimmy was the best fit for us from a need perspective, certainly from a talent perspective, overall. As I have said, I think he is a unique talent, and he makes us a lot better as a football player."The Ravens will get a first-hand look this season at the two players they passed on. Wilkerson went to Rex Ryan and the New York Jets at No. 30, and Heyward was drafted one pick later by AFC North rival Pittsburgh.
