The Ravens took a deep threat in the second round, selecting Maryland's Torrey Smith with the 58th overall pick.
Smith, 22, has the size (6 feet, 205 pounds). He has the speed (he's expected to run one of the top times in the 40-yard dash Sunday). And he has the stats (15.7 yards per catch and 12 touchdowns last season for the Terrapins).
The Ravens desperatedly needed to add speed to a wide receiver group that has Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason.
The Ravens chose Smith over Miami's Leonard Hankerson, Kentucky's Randall Cobb and North Carolina's Greg Little. At the NFL combine in February, Smith talked about his desire to play for the Ravens.
To be able to play for the Ravens, it would definitely be a great situation for me, being that I played at Maryland," Smith said. "I know how demanding the fans are, what they expect and how much they love the Ravens. I would be honored to wear the purple and black."
