Waiting on Jordan Williams -- updated

Maryland football player Cameron Chism told me today that he is in a leadership class with Terps basketball player Jordan Williams.

Chism said he and Williams are working on a class presentation together.

But the funny thing is that -- according to Chism -- Williams hasn't been in class lately.

"It's been two weeks," Chism said. "And the class meets twice a week. I hope he doesn't leave me hanging."

Maryland fans are hoping they won't be left hanging themselves. They're worried that Williams may be about to bolt for the NBA and skip his junior and senior seasons with the Terps.

Here is an update: Maryland announced Tuesday afternoon that Williams filed paperwork to enter his name into the NBA draft. But the sophomore will not hire an agent, enabling him to withdraw his name and return to school if he doesn't like his expected draft position. That's what Greivis Vasquez did after his junior season.

Williams' high school coach, Tony Turina, told me he hopes the player makes time for a long talk with Gary Williams between now and May 8 -- the deadline to withdraw his name from the draft.

"I see so many positive parts of his game but I also see certain parts of his game that I know need improvements," said Turina of Torrington, Conn. "He's got a a big upside but he also has some parts of his game that I'm sure he knows he needs to improve upon."

Said Turina: "My advice is to sit down with Gary Williams and talk about the situation. Nobody knows Jordan better than Gary Williams."
