Palin hits back at HBO, NOW over Maher insult

Here's Sarah Palin Wednesday night being interviewed by Greta Van Susteren on the crude remark Bill Maher made about her on his HBO show.

I am not feeling very positive about Palin these days. And I absolutely believe in the need for free and unfettered speech on channels like HBO. But what Maher said is sexist, ugly and all about trying to use the power of language to keep women subordinate to men.

I will leave it right there for now. You tell me what you think of what he said -- and her response in this video.

Palin's mocking of HBO for "keeping it classy" comes at about 3 minutes and 30 seconds. She takes her shot at NOW earlier, saying, " I need NOW's defense like a fish needs a bicycle."

Palin is a difficult interview, because she doesn't seem to listen to anything interviewers say -- especially on Fox News where she thinks the hosts are supposed to just tee everything up for her to hit out of the park. Give Van Susteren credit, she did an excellent job in drawing Palin out and getting her to comment -- as opposed to letting Palin play her ususal disingenuous games of talking about only what she wants to talk about.

Give Van Susteren credit also for trying to contextualize Maher's remarks within larger issues of gender and ideology.

Palin doesn't like context -- just talking points and catchphrases, it seems.

But what do you think about her performance?

By the way I am consciously not going to reproduce, paraphrase or offer a link to what Maher said. That's how offensive I find it.

He wanted attention, and he got it. But he debases himself in the way he went about it, and I really don't want anything to do with him/it. He could have criticized, attacked, skewered Palin a million ways without resorting to such sexism. Lord, knows she is an easy enough target.
