Hines Ward joins 'Dancing with the Stars'

Hines Ward is going from catching balls to competing for a disco ball trophy. The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver was announced Monday night as a member of the 12th season for ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."

Ward will be the third active NFL player to take part in the show, joining Jason Taylor (the runner-up in May 2008) and Chad Johnson (fourth in May 2010). Other former NFL stars who have put on their dancing shoes for the show include Kurt Warner, Lawrence Taylor, Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp, Jerry Rice and most notably, Season 3 winner Emmitt Smith. It'll be interesting to see how long Ward lasts on the show. He probably shouldn't be counting on too many votes from the Baltimore area.

Still, if ABC was going to pick an active NFL player, it's surprising that the show didn't approach Ray Lewis. The Ravens linebacker has more experience than anyone considering he dances before every home game.
