After the Boston College defeat, Maryland's road to redemption -- and NCAA tournament relevance -- must start at Cassell Coliseum tonight against Virginia Tech. A Terps loss would amount to three losses in four Atlantic Coast Conference games. If you're Maryland, you know it's the time of year when you need to be on an upward arc.
It's my first time covering a game at Cassell Coliseum although I've been to Virginia Tech several times for football. I was also here covering the Virginia Tech shootings. Every time I pass those Hokie stone landmarks on the sprawling campus,, I'm reminded of that horrible day.
Virginia Tech beat the Terps by 17 points on Jan. 20. But there's an urgency (desperation?) surrounding the Hokies. Just like Maryland, they know they must still build a case for the NCAA tournament committee.
