Ravens starting inside linebacker Jameel McClain reportedly received a second-round tender as a restricted free agent, which essentially guarantees he'll remain with the team next season.
The Ravens had to protect McClain because a low tender would have given them no compensation (he was undrafted out of Syracuse) if another team signed him. In his first season as a starter, McClain finished third on the team with 91 tackles. He also had one sack and one fumble recovery.
Another linebacker, Tavares Gooden received a low tender, which means third-rounder as compensation.
Note: A previous blog entry incorrectly referred to linebacker Dannell Ellerbe as a restricted free agent. He is entering his third season, which means he is an exclusive rights free agent (Ravens only have to tender him a contract to keep him).
