Pittsburgh has settled on former Tulsa coach Todd Graham to lead its program, but the coaching turmoil leading up to his hiring has put the Maryland football program in contention for two Panthers recruits.

Defensive back Lafayette Pitts -- a teammate of Terps defensive end commitment Quinton Jefferson at Woodland Hills High in Pittsburgh -- is planning an official visit to College Park.

Pitts originally committed to Pitt, but is now looking at a few other schools because of the Pitt coaching situation. He already has visited Iowa and will visit Maryland and Rutgers the next two weekends.

Defensive tackle Marquise Wright out of Paramus Catholic in New Jersey is also considering the Terps, although they face stiff competition from an ACC rival.

"It's Rutgers, Maryland, UNC, Miami and Michigan State," Wright said.

Wright has taken official visits to Maryland and North Carolina. He came away from his official visit to Chapel Hill this past weekend with a new favorite. The Tar Heels are going to be tough to beat.• Two Maryland recruits are headed to Nashville this weekend, according to ACCSports.com.

Fullback Tyler Cierski and tight end Ryan Malleck are taking trips to Vanderbilt (where former Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin is now the coach) this weekend and thus are now listed as "soft" verbals by Scout.com.

• Maryland offensive line commitment Andrew Zeller was a surprising omission from Pennsylvania's roster for the Big 33 game against Ohio.

Both were also two-way York-Adams League Division I all-stars. [Penn State commitment Ben] Kline was the unanimous Division I Player of the Year and Zeller was a dominant force on both lines when the Lions made a surprising run to the District 3-AAAA title game.

And both earned second-team Class AAAA all-state berths from Pennsylvania sports writers.

• Cornerback Corey Tindal from Boyd Anderson High in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., has not committed to Florida International, contrary to a December report from PantherRage.com.

Tindal's top two schools are Western Michigan and Maryland. He is visiting Western this weekend and Maryland next weekend.
