News of the Cleveland Browns firing coach Eric Mangini spread quickly Monday. Under Mangini, the Browns compiled a 10-22 record in two seasons and dropped all four meetings with the Ravens during his tenure.
While team president Mike Holmgren and Cleveland fans may have been disappointed by the Browns' performances under Mangini, Ravens coach John Harbaugh had high praise for his coaching peer.
"I'm a big Eric Mangini fan, as you know," Harbaugh said. "I've still got a lot of respect for him. I think he's a great coach. We've had some tough battles against him, and we've been fortunate enough to come out on top. I can recognize what he was trying to do with his team real clearly, and to me, that's a sign of a good coach. They're always going to be tough. It's going to be [tough] whatever direction they go. With Holmgren running the show, you know what they're going to try to build. They're in our division. It'll be interesting to see what they do."
