AirTran won't be the first airline to provide nonstop service from Baltimore to Bermuda. USA3000 typically offers nonstop flights to Bermuda from BWI as part of a seasonal summer service, but it has not announced schedule plans for 2011. Continental, US Airways and American all offer connecting service from Baltimore to Bermuda.
The destination is just the latest in international and Caribbean routes for AirTran, which now offers service to Aruba, Cancun, Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Nassau, Bahamas and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. AirTran was purchased by Southwest Airlines for earlier this year for $1.4 billion. The deal is expected to close in early 2011, giving Southwest access to its first international routes.
In addition to service from Baltimore to Bermuda, AirTran will also be offering service from Atlanta to Bermuda. Both cities make sense in terms of offering lots of connections to AirTran's network. Flight 1811 will depart BWI daily at 12:55 p.m. and arrive at BDA at 4:05 p.m. The return flight will depart at 5:05 p.m. and arrive back in Baltimore at 6:40 p.m. (The flight is about two hours. Local time in Bermuda is about an hour earlier than Eastern time.)
