Ravens: Back to the bomb shelter

I'm a little surprised by the fan fallout from the Ravens' 26-21 loss to the Falcons on Thursday night. Based on the way some fans are lashing out, you would think the Ravens had lost by four touchdowns to a one-win team. Heck, some are suggesting that the Ravens are no longer a playoff team because they lost in the last minute against one of the best teams in the NFL.

Joe Flacco? Not so hot apparently. Cam Cameron and Greg Mattison? They both need to go (maybe they can take a cab to airport together). The refs? I can't even repeat what you are all typing about them. Needless to say, Ron Winter won't be vacationing in Baltimore any time soon.

I know it's therapeutic to go all Mike Tyson on your keyboard after a heart-wrenching loss, but there were some positives Thursday. For one, the Ravens played only a quarter and a half of quality football and still almost beat a two-loss team. On the road. After two days of practice.

The Ravens offense was out of sync early -- and the defense didn't do any favors by keeping them glued to the benches -- but it was impressive to see the Ravens rally from 13 points down in the final quarter to take the lead. And as sloppy as Flacco was early, he threw three second-half touchdowns.

As for the defense, I won't make any excuses for that bunch. The Ravens let the Falcons off the hook.

Anyway, I'm going to slink back to my bomb shelter until this all blows over. I assume the Ravens will still be Super Bowl contenders when I come back out, despite the tight road loss to a playoff team. Hopefully you will see that, too, once the smoke clears and the fires burn out.
