The Baseball Writers Association of America on Wednesday afternoon announced the winners of the AL and NL Managers of the Year awards: Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire and San Diego's Bud Black.
Somewhere, Baltimore manager Buck Showalter is scowling -- not due to the fact that he got shut out in the voting, but just because that's what he does. Showalter probably couldn't care less.
That doesn't mean baseball insiders and outsiders across the country didn't notice what Showalter accomplished after taking over the cellar-dwelling Orioles in early August. The Orioles went 34-23 under Showalter -- in an AL East-heavy closing stretch -- to avoid hitting the century mark in losses.
For that, fans can't wait to see what Showalter does with a full season. Until then, scowl away, Buck.
