Maryand's turnaround football season has landed coach Ralph Friedgen Atlantic Coast Conference coach of the year.
Meanwhile, quarterback Danny O'Brien was named the conference's top first-year player.
Friedgen (29 votes) finished first in the voting, ahead of Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech (19 votes).
It was Friedgen's second Coach of the Year award. He won it in 2001. Meanwhile, O'Brien is the first Terrapin to be ACC Rookie of the Year.
