Harbaugh: "We need to get return game going"

One of the biggest struggles for the Ravens this season has been their return game. The Ravens rank 22nd in kickoffs returns (21.0-yard average) and 29th in punt returns (5.7).

"We do need to get the return game going, there's no doubt about it," coach John Harbaugh said on his weekly radio show on WBAL. "We need to make better decisions. We don't need to bring the ball out of the end zone when it's 4.3 hang time. We need to run the ball north and south."

Last season, the Ravens ranked second on kickoffs and 20th on punts. After six games this season, there has been a major dropoff with kickoff returner Jalen Parmele and punt returner Tom Zbikowski.

"I'm disappointed in it," Harbaugh said on WBAL. "But it's not from a lack of effort. I think we've really worked really hard in practice. We're not as far off as it looks. We're capable of busting returns. But we have to find the right formula and we'll get the thing cranking."

Harbaugh mentioned that rookie David Reed could get a chance on kickoffs and Donte' Stallworth might return punts (that would come after the bye when Stallworth recovers from a broken foot). At some point, Lardarius Webb might field kicks as well, according to Harbaugh.
