Birk says he's bruised and battered, but fine

Ravens center Matt Birk said Wednesday he has no serious injury concerns beyond the normal aches and bruises typical of a 13-year veteran.

Baltimore brought in several offensive linemen this week for auditions, including centers Jake Grove, Nick Leckey and Brett Romberg. That prompted speculation the team might have concerns about Birk, who missed time in training camp with shoulder and neck injuries. The Ravens didn't sign a center, instead opting to bring in Scott Kooistra, who has experience playing both tackle and guard.

"I feel good," Birk said. "I'm here. I'm practicing. I'm playing. When you're a young player, you hurt too. It's a physical game. I think as you get older, maybe you get a little more used to it. A lot of it is just state of mind. You realize you're going to have bumps and bruises. If you play a long time, its just mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."
