Troy Smith signed with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, two days after the longtime backup was released by the Ravens.
The Ravens decided to keep two quarterbacks (Joe Flacco and Marc Bulger) on the 53-man roster for the first time since 2006.
Smith, the 2006 Heisman Trophy winner, will the No. 3 quarterback for the 49ers behind Alex Smith and David Carr.
The Ravens added a third quarterback when they signed Hunter Cantwell to the practice squad.
