Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed has decided to go on the physically-unable-to-play list, Ravens coach John Harbaugh confirmed Friday night.
Under the rules of the PUP, the Pro Bowl safety will miss the first six weeks of the season after that there will be a 21 day period in which he can practice with the team and either decide to remain on the PUP for the rest of the season or play.
Reed underwent hip surgery some time around the draft in
April. He has been rehabilitating with an independent trainer in Atlanta.
Tom Zbikowski, who had two interceptions in four starts last year after replacing an injure Reed, has filled in for Reed this entire preseason.
The expectation is that Reed will be fully recovered when he comes off in week seven.
