Despite success in Cleveland, Cundiff saw the writing on the wall

When the Cleveland Browns jettisoned Billy Cundiff on Nov. 3, they dumped a kicker who had made all six field-goal attempts in five games.

But Cundiff, who found a home with the Ravens, said he wasn't surprised because he understood that his stay in Cleveland would last as long as Phil Dawson's pulled right calf muscle continued to be a problem.

"I knew what the deal was," Cundiff said. "I'm not going to delude myself. I went in there knowing that I had to do that. I didn't really get a bunch of long attempts. … I think my longest attempt was 31 yards. So it was a great chance to get in there, get some game reps, get back behind the line, and do the whole game thing. I knew it was an audition for somewhere else."
