Oniel Cousins said he fully participated in his first meaningful practice since Aug. 18, and the offensive tackle said he intends to continue to work himself back into shape with the goal of playing in the season opener against the New York Jets on Sept. 13.
"I felt good today, and I think I'll feel even better on Monday," Cousins said after Friday morning's practice. "We have the weekend off, and it's a good time to rest my brain and just relax."
Cousins, the team's third-round pick in 2008, said he still suffers from the occasional headache, but he said the frequency of the headaches has abated. Friday's practice didn't involve much full contact, according to Cousins.
"It felt good," he said. "It wasn't one of those practices that was very, very physical. It was more of a mental thing. Assignment, alignment, all technique stuff. So I felt pretty good overall moving around."
Cousins has missed the last three preseason games. Tony Moll started at right tackle for Cousins in the second and third contests.
Cousins said he is aiming to start against the Jets.
"I think so," he said of his availability against New York. "Like I said, I'm feeling better and better every day."
