Cantwell has much to learn

Hunter Cantwell has a lot of studying to do.

The second-year quarterback who joined the Ravens practice squad after the Carolina Panthers cut him last Saturday acknowledged that the move entailed erasing what he had previously learned.

"It's going to be a whole new learning process for me," the 6-foot-4, 236-pound Cantwell said after Monday's practice. "I came from verbage in Carolina, and this is a lot more of a numbers system. So it is different, but in football, you can only do so much. The concepts are the same. You just have to learn and translate from what you already know. There will be a growing process, but I feel confident that I'll be able to get it down."

Something catastrophic would have to happen to quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Marc Bulger for Cantwell to be promoted to the active roster. But he is expected to learn as much as he can under their tutelege.

"Joe and Marc are great quarterbacks, and they have great reputations," Cantwell said. "So to come here and learn from them and be a part of this organization, it's an honor that I'm excited about."
