Jets linebacker Bart Scott earned the nickname the "Mad Backer" when he was with the Ravens, but there will be two of them out on the field Monday night, including Ravens inside linebacker Ray Lewis.
When Scott was here, he always felt slighted because he did a lot of the dirty work for the Ravens and Lewis like plugging gaps and taking on lead blockers so Lewis could make tackles. He finally felt some redemption when both players were free agents, and Jets coach Rex Ryan pursued him instead of Lewis. Come Monday night, Scott gets to go against Lewis on national television and he'll play out of his mind. Since he left Baltimore, the Ravens haven't been able to replace Scott.
Lewis on the other hand, had a few choice words about Ryan and the Jets this week. It wasn't a rant, and Lewis didn't "go off." It was all controlled, but Lewis just let Ryan know he didn't appreciate recent comments, and that his team had to back up his words Monday night.
Regardless of what was said this week, Ryan and Lewis have great respect for each other, and if it weren't for Lewis, Marvin Lewis, Ryan, Jack Del Rio, Mike Nolan, and Mike Smith may have never gotten head coaching jobs. I think Lewis, like the rest of the Ravens, just got fed up with all the jawing coming from the Jets since the opening of training camp.
Lewis, like Scott, will be a force Monday night. There will be two mad backers on the field.
