Rookie defensive tackle Arthur Jones said he has made the team's 53-man active roster.
Via text, Jones wrote, "I made the team. 53 man too : )"
The 6-foot-3, 313-pound Jones was selected by the Ravens in the fifth round in April. It was believed that Jones was competing with veterans Brandon McKinney, Kelly Talavou and Lamar Divens for a backup spot along the defensive line.
Divens, a 6-3, 343-pound veteran who spent 2009 on injured reserve with a hip injury, said he was unsure of his status. Via text, he wrote, "I haven't heard anything yet but I guess no news is good news."
UPDATE: Jones said he was informed of his status after a team meeting Saturday morning. "It was nerve-wracking, the last couple days, not knowing if I was going to be released or on a different team," he said. "Job security in the NFL isn't the best, you know? But I knew that I gave it my all in camp and OTAs and I left it all out there. If I was going to get cut or traded or land with a different team, I knew it wasn't because of my athletic ability or my effort. But everything worked out great, and once I found out that I made the 53-man roster, it was like a dream come true. That's what it's all about, to get out there and play on Sundays. I just can't wait to let the coaches know that they made the right decision in drafting me and having faith in me."
Added Jones: "This is like my birthday, Christmas and everything all wrapped up into one. I can't wait to get out there."
