The Ravens will be down to just five healthy offensive tackles in their second contest of the preseason.
Prior to Saturday night's game against the Washington Redskins, the team deactivated Jared Gaither, Oniel Cousins and Stefan Rodgers.
Gaither has not practiced since Aug. 5 because of a small tear in his back that has caused back spasms. Cousins has sat out the last two days of training camp after developing a headache during a 1-on-1 pass blocking drill. Rodgers is dealing with a dislocated right shoulder that has kept him out since Monday.
That means that Tony Moll will start at right tackle. Also, center Matt Birk (neck tightness) was not deactivated, and he is expected to start.
The Ravens also deactivated safeties Ed Reed (hip surgery – physically-unable-to-perform list) and Marcus Paschal (right leg), guards David Hale (bruised tailbone) and Daniel Sanders (left shoulder), linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo (quad surgery – PUP list), running back Matt Lawrence (knee surgery – PUP list) and cornerback K.J. Gerard (hamstring).
Tom Zbikowski will start at free safety for Reed. Tight ends Ed Dickson (groin) and Davon Drew (hamstring) and wide receiver Mark Clayton (ankle) are expected to play.
Washington deactivated wide receivers Malcolm Kelly and Mike Furrey, who was placed on injured reserve due to effects from a concussion. Larry Johnson will start at running back for Clinton Portis.
