Laura Linney's 'Big C' opens strong in ratings

"The Big C," starring Laura Linney, had a big opening night for Showtime attracting the largest audience for any new series on the premium cable channel since 2002.

The drama about a Minneapolis school teacher who finds out she has stage four melanoma drew an audience of 1.15 million viewers -- holding almost all of the 1.26 million who tuned into Showtime 30 minutes earlier to see the season opener of "Weeds."
