J.McClain not an active participant in Thursday's practice

Jameel McClain made a late showing at Ravens practice Thursday, but it did not appear that the linebacker was actively participating in the session at the team's facility in Owings Mills.

McClain, who has started at inside linebacker in both of the team's preseason games, had his left knee taped and wrapped and walked carefully to the practice field. Once there, he stood behind the rest of the linebackers as they ran through a series of positional drills.

If McClain can't play Saturday night against the New York Giants, that might open the door for either Dannell Ellerbe or Tavares Gooden to earn his first start of the preseason.

In addition to McClain, offensive tackles Jared Gaither (disk in back) and Oniel Cousins (concussion), guards David Hale (bruised tailbone) and Daniel Sanders (left shoulder), rookie nose tackle Terrence Cody (swelling in left knee), wide receiver Demetrius Williams (sprained right ankle) and safety Marcus Paschal (right leg) did not practice.

Defensive tackle Brandon McKinney (swelling in right knee) returned after missing the previous two days. Wide receiver Eron Riley (unspecified) was present, but he did not take part in individual or positional drills.
