JetBlue: 'Sometimes the weird news is about us'

JetBlue has finally chimed in on the raging top of their "folk hero" flight attendant. It seems they're a bit amused but in a "who, us?" kinda way. Which means they're not saying bupkis, really. On their "BlueTales" blog, the airline makes fun of the sudden popularity of Steven Slater and says the dramatic exit "may feed your inner Office Space." There's also a little dig as the airline thanks its "2,300 fantastic, awesome and professional Inflight Crewmembers" - that doesn't include you, Mr. Slater.

Anyways, what they don't say on the blog is that passengers on that disruptive flight will each receive $100 vouchers, according to a JetBlue spokesperson who appeared on CNN. And since I haven't heard to the contrary, I imagine that includes the passenger who Slater says was abusive. (Can I coin the term Slater hater? A passenger who is abusive toward the flight crew is a "Slater hater.")

Meanwhile, in an interview with the New York Times, Slater - trapped with media in an elevator like a rabbit in a foxhole - admitted that he had always fantasized about using the airplane's chute. Well haven't we all?
